Homemade Play Dough Recipes that Kids Will Love

Is playdough really worth the mess?  Of course it is!  Kids love working with play dough – whether it’s rolling out snakes or making elaborate layered cakes that you, Mama, get to “eat”.  It’s not only calming and therapeutic, but also promotes those fine motor skills necessary for kindergarten.

Don’t have time to run out to the store?  You can whip up some playdough using simple ingredients from your kitchen pantry.

For this play dough recipe I used the following:

  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1/2 cup of salt
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 3 tablespoons of cream of tartar
  • 1 cup water
  • food coloring if desired

Heat and stir all of the ingredients until it can’t be stirred and forms a ball.  It will still feel very sticky.  Allow the dough to cool thoroughly and then knead.  You can even knead in some glitter for a little extra sparkle.
